Kitsune No Yomeiri

IN A WORD (OR TWO)
Y

ears of experimentation, ideas, and meeting the right people went into the making of this snare.
The idea to pay homage to Japan came from Alice Pizzi. “Kitsune No Yomeiri” literally means “the wedding of the foxes”. This ceremony is said to be invisible to men, who are destined never to take part in it.

NOTES & CURIOSITIES

The throw-off

Having a custom-made throw-off is pretty much the dream of every drum maker. Designing one from scratch and putting it together a piece at a time goes beyond their expectations. It took us a lot of time and effort, but we did it and we’re proud. It’s an absolute gem: on the outside, there’s not much to see, but an intricate network of mechanisms makes it possible not only to tighten the snare wires, but also to adjust the amount of tension by simply turning the upper knob.

Brass hardware

The hardware mounted on this shell was made one piece at a time. We used solid brass and each piece was entirely hand-turned. Making this prototype was an arduous process that took a great deal of time and energy. We did the work in the evenings, in odd moments, in our free time: some people go to the seaside; others switch on a horizontal lathe and start turning. Perhaps just a few of us can really grasp the love and passion behind a simple tension rod or lug. Anyway, I suggest you keep on going to the seaside; it’s a good choice.

The decision to use precious metal for the hardware on this shell is the logical consequence of a unique job order like this one. Apart from the drumheads, the instrument consists entirely of custom built, made to measure parts.

Let’s say the most important thing straight away: from a musician’s ergonomic point of view, the rims of our wood hoops have been designed to be the same height as standard, metal hoops.

  • You won’t have to change the way you play to use them;
  • They are made of solid wood and don’t limit how you tune the drumhead.

Wood hoops offer new expressive possibilities; they have their own sound identity.

  • The first thing you will notice is the controlled overtone of the rimshot: wood on wood creates a precise, musically pleasing attack, which combines pleasingly with the rest of the instrument.

The variety of woods available offers new design possibilities. The potential combinations are many and extremely varied.

  • Wood hoops are usually designed to make them easier to build. However, we have chosen to create a product that doesn’t make the overall design of the instrument itself heavier in appearance or actual weight.
