Taiko Drums
Taiko Drums
CONSTRUCTION
We always use the segmented technique, where the staves are mounted horizontally. This ensures that there are no internal tensions in the shell that might dampen or reduce vibrations and resonance. The result is a more full-bodied sound with better sustain and emphasis on lower frequencies.
WOOD
We mostly use poplar, oak and mahogany, but we are open-minded, and ready to experiment according to our customers’ requests. Whatever the choice, the wood we use is carefully selected and ensures the best possible sound and years of peak performance.
DRUM HEADS
We have opted for natural drumheads without knife marks or cuts. All the raw hides we use are prepared manually without using any chemical additives. This prevents damage to the skin and guarantees elasticity. The hides are cut to leave the thickest part of the animal in the center. In this way they last longer and perform better. The downside is that this requires a larger number of hides. We use buffalo and cow hides for the larger taikos.
