NOTES & CURIOSITIES
Zebra wood “The Killer”
Zebra wood, an African wood with a typical black striped appearance, is one of the most difficult woods to work with. It tends to crack when it is in large boards and has many internal tensions that complicate the cutting and shimming operations. It can be considered a medium heavy and hard wood. We personally call it “killer wood” because it tends to chip and it is very easy to injure your hands.
Elm = Snare
Unlike the set which is made with a mix of zebra wood and walnut, the snare drum is all in elm, except for the hoops, which are handmade in zebra wood.
