Ash and Padauk
mong the drum sets produced by Respighi Drums in 2018, this has been one of the most admired. There’s no doubt that the combination of light-colored ash with its darkened grain and the reddish-brown of padauk is eye-catching. But the photo can’t convey the vastness of sound and tone of this set: it really is complete.
Wood
This set unites ash, which is a European wood, with the more exotic padauk that is often used for acoustic drum sets and snares. The combination defines this set. To make it even more engaging, the ash was painted in such a way that the softest part absorbed the color, making it darker and bringing out the complex patterns in the grain.
The Sound
This is a very complete drum set, with two floor toms and three toms. The sound produced shows that even hitherto unused combinations of woods with different responses can produce magnificent results, both in terms of depth of voice and complexity of shades of tone.
