Black limba
his drum set is made of black limba, an African variety of korina mahogany. A parasitic insect causes fungus to grow in the living tree, and this leaves dark or black stripes. It already looks good on the boards, so when horizontal staves are carefully combined, it becomes mesmerizing. This is wood at the height of its beauty. This set was baptized on the stage of the Masada Club in Milan by a number of drummers including Eric Doob, Teun Verbruggen and Tony Bucks. It was a resounding success.
Wood
We added brushed larch rings on the kick drum to the segmented black limba. The rings were treated with a dark color mordant to intensify the contrast between colors.
The Sound
This set lives in a studio and so is intentionally eclectic to adapt to different situations. Its 20” kick drum and elegant, deep sound make it extremely versatile.
