POPLAR SNARE
his snare was made for Andy Caligaris – who was a student of De Piscopo. Today he is one of the finest exponents of pre-rock (rockabilly, surf and garage). The idea behind this poplar wood snare was to provide a range of extremely high-quality sounds that would blend in perfectly with Andy’s minimal drum set. The three sets of snare wires offer a wide range of different sounds, and together with the S-hoop, make for an extremely versatile instrument.
We chose poplar, a light wood with a warm sound full of presence. Naturally, 100% solid; naturally, using the segmented technique.
We aimed for a bit of an ‘Old Style’ effect with the finishing, too: something that would go well with Andy’s style inspired by the ’50s and ’60s.
