NOTES & CURIOSITIES
Woods, scents and sensations
Working with wood isn’t just about making things. It means handling something alive and beautiful; it arouses emotions. Working with olive wood is incredible: when you cut it, it releases a delicate and reassuring fragrance like freshly-baked bread. Then you touch it and you feel it’s sawdust on your fingers: it’s pasty, oily and crumbly. You rub it between your fingertips, you smell it. Then you look at the stave, you wet it with a drop of linseed oil to bring out the grain in the middle of that perfect luminous shade of ochre, and a shiver as warm as the sun runs up your back to your neck.
