IN A WORD (OR TWO)
n the end, the owner’ lengthy and painstaking research gave us immense satisfaction. He took about a year to evaluate the many options his considerable budget made available to him, including the competition. But in the end, Marco chose Respighi Drums to build his new, custom instrument.
Marco is one of those customers it’s a pleasure to work with: clear-thinking, well-mannered, punctual and respectful of our work. That’s why we did everything we could to guide him and fulfil his many requests. We always thought he was a reserved and sober type, but when his set was delivered, he was literally beside himself with joy!

NOTES & CURIOSITIES
Trinity of wood
Considering our customer’s needs, we used three different types of wood to make the shells. The toms and floor toms had to “sing”. There’s no better word to describe that concept to a drummer, so we opted for maple. The kick drum needed to have plenty of lower emphasis, so the natural choice was poplar. We chose birch for the snare. It was a must and in between maple and poplar.
Uniformity of sound
The diameter of the shells is usually chosen in an attempt to attain uniformity across the scale of musical notes available. This time we did something more: bearing in mind the tone of the sound, we reduced the depth of the floor toms to make them proportional to the other toms, so that we obtained a more uniform sound throughout the instrument.
